How to Wear a Hat With a Hearing Aid

“Can I wear a hat with my BAHA?” is a question that we get asked a lot here at BAHA Accessories, so in this blog, we’ll take a closer look at hearing aid hats and explain exactly how to wear a hat with a hearing aid.

Will Any Hat Work With a Hearing Aid?

If you, or your child, wears a bone-anchored hearing aid, you may have already tried to wear a standard hat over the top of it and found that this doesn’t quite work!

That’s because your BAHA sound processor is an electronic device which is sensitive to interference so if it touches fabric, like that from a hat, this can cause unpleasant feedback issues. Not only that, but you’ll probably find it’s pretty uncomfortable too, as your BAHA will likely make the hat too tight and look bumpy where your processor sits underneath.

However, the good news is that you don’t have to give up on the idea of wearing a hat with your hearing aid because specially adapted BAHA hats are available that can be worn alongside your hearing device.

How Are BAHA Hats Different?

Just like a BAHA headband, a BAHA hat is designed to hold your BAHA processor securely and comfortably in place so it can receive vibrations and transmit these through your skull bones to your cochlear where they can be turned into sound.

Many BAHA wearers like having a choice of whether to wear their hearing aid on a headband or a hat. As a bonus, BAHA hats also help to keep your head warm during cold weather or help you stay cool and protect you from the sun during summer. They also happen to look great too!

Unlike standard hats, our specially-designed BAHA hats have a perfectly sized opening that is specially designed to accommodate your BAHA processor without being uncomfortably tight or causing feedback issues.

What Types of Hat Can I Wear?

There are a wide variety of different BAHA hats available, from newborn baby hats and bucket hats to woolly hats for winter, and summer hats for all ages. We also have baseball caps for BAHAs in various sizes and colours and trendy pom-pom hats for adults, teens and children. Basically, when it comes to wearing a hat with your hearing aid, the choices are endless!
