If you’re new to wearing a BAHA, you’ll need to know how to clean and care for your BAHA headband. In this blog, we’ll cover some of the dos and don’ts of BAHA care that will help keep your headband looking great.
Why Is It Important to Clean My BAHA?
Your BAHA is designed to be worn around-the-clock, only being removed for certain activities like sleeping, showering or swimming, for example. This means that like anything else we wear, a BAHA headband can be exposed to sweat, dirt and debris.
If you have a baby or young child who wears a BAHA headband, you may find that their headband is visibly dirty after mealtimes or a day at nursery. Teenagers or adults may want to clean their BAHA headband after wearing it on a hot day or when playing sports. Hair can also get tangled around your BAHA headband or processor, affecting its function.
Taking the time to clean and care for your BAHA headband means it stays looking good, smelling fresh and most importantly, keeping your BAHA processor securely in place.
Caring For Your BAHA Processor
Remember that BAHA processors aren’t waterproof so you will need to remove your processor when bathing or showering and you shouldn’t use running water to clean your BAHA processor.
Instead, you can use an alcohol-free cleaning wipe or soft cloth to wipe down your processor. Do this at least once a week or whenever your processor has been exposed to sweat or moisture or is visibly dirty. Cleaning your processor on a regular basis will help to keep it in good working order.
How to Clean Your BAHA Headband
BAHA headbands are sponge-clean only and shouldn’t be placed in a washing machine. You can wash your BAHA headband by hand in warm, soapy water up to 40°c. Use a mild detergent to clean your headband and avoid fabric softeners or harsh chemicals. You should then leave your headband to air dry. Don’t tumble-dry or iron your BAHA headband as this can affect its elasticity, meaning it may no longer fit properly or hold your processor securely in place.
If your BAHA headband is heavily stained and no longer comes clean after handwashing, then it’s probably time to invest in a new headband.
