BHM Contact Mini Headband

If you or your child has just started wearing a bone anchored hearing aid, you probably have a lot of questions. In this blog, we’ll explain what you need to know about BAHA systems including the BHM Contact Mini and the types of BAHA headbands that suit it best.

Different Types of Bone Anchored Hearing Aid

BAHA stands for bone-anchored hearing aid. This is the term most people use to describe hearing systems that use bone conduction, whether that’s a surgically implanted hearing device or one worn externally.

Bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) are an ideal solution for hearing loss resulting from problems with the outer or middle ear. A BAHA bypasses these, transmitting sound directly into the inner ear, therefore offering a practical alternative to traditional hearing aids for many deaf or hard-of-hearing children and adults.

There are several manufacturers and models of bone-anchored hearing aids and our BAHA headbands work with them all, including the Oticon Ponto system, Cochlear BAHA, Medel Adhear and BHM Contact Mini.

What Is the BHM Contact Mini System?

BHM (Berl Hörgeräte Manufaktur) is an Austrian company that develops hearing aid systems that are used around the world and the BHM Contact Mini is one of their specialist bone conduction hearing systems. It was developed especially for children and is made up of two interconnected units: an electronic compartment and a miniature receiver, both of which can be worn on headbands, hats or other accessories, giving the wearer total freedom of movement without restriction.

Though it was designed with children in mind, many adults also wear a BHM Contact Mini, especially athletes and sports enthusiasts, as this type of hearing aid is very discrete and easy to integrate into headgear such as caps and helmets.

This type of BAHA doesn’t involve a surgical procedure to have an implant fitted, avoiding the risks of surgery, and making it suitable for children who may be too young to undergo surgery or those who would prefer not to have an operation.

BAHA Headbands For the BHM Contact Mini

If you’re looking for a replacement BHM Contact Mini headband, then you’re in luck! We have developed a new range of wide headbands, especially for the BHM Contact Mini. These new, wider bands suit this type of bone anchored hearing device much better than standard-width BAHA headbands.

As the name suggests, this new range of headbands are wider than our standard headbands with a width of 5cm (compared to our standard headbands, which are 1.6cm.) They are made from both fabric and elastic, so when ordering a wide headband, you will need to provide your measurements from one ear, across the top of the head to the other ear, following the line where you want your headband to sit.

These BHM Contact Mini headbands do have many similarities to our standard headbands, however; Just like our standard-width headbands, our new wide headbands are fully customisable and available in a wide range of colours and designs. The headbands are also fully adjustable meaning that they can be worn by babies, children, teens and adults. And, as with our standard BAHA headbands, our new wide headbands for the BHM Contact Mini are backed with non-slip silicone and supplied with a safety line anchor as standard.
