How to Use BAHA Headband Safety Lines

If you’re new to the world of bone-anchored hearing aids then you’ve probably heard about BAHA safety lines and you may be wondering what they are and how to use them. In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at the purpose of safety lines, why they are useful and how to use BAHA headband safety lines.

What Is a BAHA Safety Line?

A BAHA hearing device can be fitted with a safety line attached to the processor, which can then in turn be connected to something else – for example, the collar of your clothes, to prevent the processor from falling if it comes loose or is knocked.

This can help prevent your BAHA processor from getting lost or damaged and is ideal if you’re doing something energetic like jogging or playing sports. It’s also useful for kids who wear a BAHA and still want to be able to run, jump and play with their friends without worrying about their BAHA coming loose.

Some people find that a safety line gets in their way so prefer not to use one and very young babies or toddlers might find it distracting or be tempted to pull on it so parents may decide not to use one until they’re old enough to understand what it is. However, for many BAHA wearers, a safety line can help protect their hearing aid and mean they don’t need to worry about it falling off or getting damaged and whether you’re riding a bike, a horse or a rollercoaster, a safety line for your BAHA can undoubtedly come in very handy!

What Is a Safety Line Anchor?

A safety line anchor is simply the thing that you attach your BAHA’s safety line to, which prevents the processor from falling to the floor if it comes off. Here BAHA Accessories, a built-in safety line anchor comes as standard with all of our full headbands so you can clip your BAHA safety line straight onto your headband to keep your BAHA processor secure without the need for any extra clips or accessories.

How to Fit a BAHA Safety Line

Fitting a BAHA safety line to your processor is a simple process, just follow the steps below.

1.    Make the loop

Insert the clear line through the tiny hole in your processor. Put each end through the crimp supplied in alternate directions. Make the loop nice and small, and then squash the crimp flat using a pair of pliers.

2.    Clip your safety line

You can now clip your safety line to the small loop.

You can see how easy this is to do below in the short demonstration video we have made 🙂
